Kimiko’s Bio

Kimiko began her quest in the beauty industry by attending Cosmetology school and working in retail cosmetics for Shiseido. Feeling unfulfilled at the level of makeup training received in these outlets, she researched places to continue her education. In 1999, Kimiko enrolled at Empire Academy of Makeup where she was taught in-depth, advanced makeup application techniques as well as ethics and professionalism skills. Throughout each of her courses, she was top in her class. This qualified her to be sent out on jobs through the Empire Agency where she worked with athletes and celebrities for print, video and live appearances. After completion of courses at Empire, Kimiko was promoted as a regional Freelance Artist for Shiseido Cosmetics and became an Assistant Instructor. Over the past decade, Kimiko has continued to work as a freelance artist for film, print, and bridal work. In the summer of 2008, she was responsible for launching the All About Me Beauty Camp for teen girls which is a program located within the Empire Academy facility.

As a former Empire Academy graduate, Empire Agency Artist and Director of our new Beauty Camp, Kimiko embodies Empires high standards and passion for the industry. Kimiko gives her expert advice on what is necessary to achieve career goals. She is here to assist and mentor aspiring makeup artists in pursuing the creative, fun, rewarding and lucrative career in which so many only dream about. Many exciting opportunities await those that are serious about makeup.

Kimiko hand selects individuals that she accepts for enrollment after meeting with potential students for a tour of the facility and personal interview. (Those from out of state or out of the country may choose to do a telephone interview if they are not able to tour the school personally.) Her decisions are made on an individual basis once she has determined a level of maturity, confidence, and a desire to achieve career goals, dedication and follow through on commitments. A positive attitude and an outgoing personality are imperative for success as an artist. Those who've done research on the industry and on other schools with prepared questions are preferred.

If selected for enrollment, Kimiko will recommend courses that she feels are the best fit for each student. She will answer all questions, inform you of important facts, help each person find appropriate financing and will give you all of the instructions you will need for your first day of class.

Receptionist, Carleen Carriedo

Carleen joined the Empire team in April 2008. New to the field, she previously worked in the banking industry for over 8 years. She graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing, and is currently working towards her Nursing degree at Golden West College. Carleen works at the front desk and also assists clients in the Empire store. She posts job information weekly on the break room board for students and graduates and also posts graduate tear shoots and the latest success stories. Carleen helps out where ever she is needed and always does it with a smile!

Lead Assistant, Brenda Betancourt

Brenda Betancourt attended Empire Academy in April 2008 and is still continuing to take classes here. She assists the staff where ever she is needed, whether it be for the Academy or the Empire store. She has recently graduated from Century High School and will start at Orange Coast College in the Fall of 2008. Brenda is also a freelance makeup artist, and is booked for various events.
