Hairstyling for the Set

Makeup Artists are often expected to do hair, especially in your first few years in the industry.  Occasionally when you arrive on the set, someone important will start telling you what to do with the models hair even when you were booked to do just the makeup!  You have a choice to either jump in and fulfill their requests or simply tell them that you don’t do hair and that there must be some kind of misunderstanding.  Unfortunately, they’ll blame you for the “misunderstanding” and more than likely this will create some tension and make some of the crew uncomfortable for the day.  And worse, the client will probably not work with you again.

There will also be many occasions during the first few years of your career that a client will request an Artist who does both hair and makeup.  If you continually say to potential clients “I don’t do hair.” You will often loose the job or get the job but at a much lower rate so that they can split your money with a hairstylist.  If you choose not to do hair, you will loose a lot of opportunities that could lead to bigger makeup jobs.  This workshop will give you a lot more insight to how to satisfy most clients with some basic styles in all genres.  Once you get your career rolling, you can get more selective and choose to do only makeup if you wish or prefer.  It is strongly suggested that you keep every door open that you can and walk through it with confidence.  

In this workshop you will learn what is expected for a job that requires hair and makeup, the proper tools and products that are necessary and many styling techniques from traditional grooming to the newest hairstyle trends and formal updo's. This class includes lectures, demonstrations and hands-on learning of styles for basic beauty, commercial, editorial, fashion, trend and working with wigs.  This course is strictly on styling. (No cutting, coloring etc.)
